After a great 20-4 season in 2015, and in spite of the loss to graduation of several players such as Melissa Robards, Sam Jabara, Hannah Heberle Rose and others, the Chelsea girls varsity basketball team is off to a great start this season. After 3 games the Bulldogs stand at 2-1, their only defeat to a very strong Marshall team.

Returning for their Senior seasons from last years team are twins Maggie and Meghan Cole, Maddy Bell, McKenzie Mykala, Olivia McCalla, and Catey Regis. Meghan Cole is still recovering from a surgery earlier this year which unfortunately will sideline her for what hopefully will only be a couple months. Returning for her Junior year is Jess Jacobhousse, and newcomers to the team are Juniors Sidney Bailey, Nicole Bareis, Kylie Kuebler, and Sarah Stribe. Also new to the team this season are sophomores Katelyn McKinley and Emily Griggs.

The Bulldogs kicked off the season with a big 54-38 victory over Dearborn Divine Child. The Bulldogs were led by Maggie Cole & Mykala with 11 points each while McCalla chipped in with 10. Cole had 4 steals and Mykala had 6 assist.

In the Bulldogs first home game of the season against Marshall, the Bulldogs played tough and strong but just couldn’t move the ball inside enough for many good chances, falling in a narrow defeat 38-35. The Bulldogs were led by Mykala with 7 points and 5 assist.

On Friday the girls took to the road and headed to Adrian to take on the Maples.  The Maples were no match for the Bulldogs as they overpowered them and got their first conference win of the season in an overwhelming 65-29 victory led by Mykala’s 20 points and 7 assist. McCalla chipped in 16 points while McKinley added 10 of her own.

The Bulldogs return home Tuesday for a 7 o’clock tip off against conference foe Ypsilanti Lincoln.
