Chelsea Girls Varsity Takes Down Lincoln

Senior Jesse Jacobusse makes a great pass in the air

The Chelsea Bulldogs came out a bit slow against the Lincoln Railspitters on Tuesday night at home before tearing it up on their way to a 66-20 victory.

Lincoln jumped out quickly to an 8-1 lead and kept the Bulldogs in check forcing turnovers and forced shots but Chelsea did the same to Lincoln and after the first period, the Railsplitters held an 8-5 lead. During that first break though, whatever 18 year Chelsea head coach Todd Bloomquist told his team sure did inspire them.

The Bulldogs played a pressing defense and came away with many turnovers and steals and the points just kept racking up for them as they scored 27 in the second while holding Lincoln to only 4 points giving the Bulldogs a whopping 32-12 lead at the half. Helping to contribute to the Bulldogs big lead was freshman Riley Davis who was just called up to varsity the day before as she hit a big 3 from the right side.

After the half, the Bulldogs kept things rolling as the defense swarmed Lincoln and gave them little or no opportunity. Coach Bloomquist was able to empty his bench giving everyone an opportunity to play including Jordan Fannin, who before this season has never played organized basketball on a team.

The Bulldogs finished with a huge 66-20 victory to get them to 4-3 on the season, 2-1 in conference. The Lady Bulldogs were led again by senior Jesse Jacobusse who had 13 points, 9 assist, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals. Nicole Bareis played a solid all-around game being very aggressive on defense forcing mistakes and bad shots and getting 9 rebounds to go along with her 9 points. Anna Regis had 9 points with 5 rebounds and 2 assist, while the freshman Davis finished with 5 points and 3 rebounds in her varsity debut.

The Bulldogs finish 2016 with a game Thursday at Ann Arbor Skyline.

Chelsea JV Girls Destroy Lincoln

Jordan Holton Drives To The Basket Against Lincoln

On Tuesday night in Chelsea, the girls junior varsity put on an offensive show in front of their home fans as they defeated the Lincoln Railsplitters 63-36. The Bulldogs started out slow as they fell behind Lincoln 13-12. But Coach Andrea Hollandsworth regrouped her girls and they fought back to go into halftime with a 26-24 lead.

After the half, the Bulldogs came out with a vengeance and went on a big scoring spree while forcing many turnovers, playing a tight, solid press defense that stymied Lincoln. In the third quarter, Chelsea only allowed Lincoln to score 4 points, with half of those coming off free throws.

The Chelsea girls didn’t let, up forcing several turnovers and getting 15 steals. Coach Hollandsworth emptied the bench giving all her girls playing time. In the second half, the Bulldogs defense only surrounded 12 points as they coasted their way to a big victory.

The Bulldogs had 4 players in double digit scoring, led by Jordan Holton with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assist, and 4 steals.
