Chelsea JV Dominates Pioneer

Chelsea’s Jordan Holton drives through the Pioneer defense

Chelsea entered Ann Arbor Pioneer’s gym on Tuesday night in need of a big victory and that’s exactly what they got. Coach Annie Hollandsworth’s Bulldogs played an excellent team effort game on their way to a huge 47-27 victory.

The Bulldogs started strong tallying 18 points in the first quarter and holding Pioneer to only 2 baskets. In the 2nd quarter, the Pioneer defense tightened up but so did Chelsea’s, not allowing a single Pioneer basket as they took a huge 23-4 lead into the half.

Pioneer came out strong fast after the second half but so did Chelsea as they kept the pedal to the metal, playing a strong pressing defense creating lots of turnovers. Chelsea spread the ball around a lot and dominated on the boards.

The Bulldogs moved to 6-6 on the season behind their leading scorer Jordan Holton who finished the night with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Jenna Fosdick finished with 10 points and 3 rebounds, while Kyle Bragg put up 7 points and led the team with 5 rebounds and also played a strong defensive game. Several players finished with 4 points and a few rebounds each.

The Bulldogs hit the road again this Friday to play Ypsilanti with a  5:30 tipoff.

Jackson Christian Falls to St. Philip Tigers

 Royal Alexis Hannewald

The Jackson Christian girls basketball team hosted the St. Philip Fighting Tigers on Friday night and were looking to pick up another victory on the season. But the Fighting Tigers had other plans for the Royals as they dominated early and took a 13-0 lead en route to a 76-42 victory.

The Royals couldn’t get any offense going early on as it took them almost four minutes to erase the zero on the scoreboard. The Fighting Tigers cruised to a big 36-14 halftime lead.

After adjustments at the half, the Royals came out on fire to try to erase a 31 point deficit. Junior Alexis Hannewald kept driving hard to the basket and when she didn’t score, she got trips to the charity stripe. But in the fourth quarter, the Royals started to tire as the Fighting Tigers kept them at bay on their way to their 8th victory of the season against 4 losses.

The royals were led by Hannewald with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Sierra Chevalier finished the night with 10 points while Cassidy McNeil, who turned 18 on gameday, finished with 8 points. One of the bright spots for the Royals on the evening was a surprise party for McNeil after the game in the school cafeteria attended by her family and friends.

The Royals look to get on the winning track at East Jackson at 7 p.m.

Chelsea Dominates On The Mats

The Chelsea wrestling team played host to Lincoln and Ann Arbor Huron High school tonight. After honoring the team seniors of the class of 2017, the grapplers squared off. Senior Trever McTaggart got things started against Lincoln in a good way as he defeated his opponent in a 171-pound category points battle. Chelsea didn’t let up from there as James Mida put his opponent on the mat for a pin before he knew what hit him, in 33 seconds! Senior Jake Jacobusse pinned his railsplitter opponent in 1 minute 43 seconds as Chelsea rolled to a huge 55-11 victory.

In the second match of the night, the Bulldogs squared off against a shortened Ann Arbor Huron team cruising to a 66-9 victory. Jacobusse, who was tied for the team lead in pins coming into the match, fell behind by 1 as his teammate Josh Dosey had two pins on the night.

The Bulldogs travel to Holt Saturday at 9 a.m. for the Holt Invitational.
