The clouds gave way early morning to what would be a beautiful day finally feeling like spring as the Chelsea Bulldogs hosted a round robin tournament. The warm weather was definitely in the favor of the Bulldogs as they defeated Adrian Madison 16-1, Woodhaven 8-0, and Haslett 15-5.
Against Adrian Madison, the Bulldogs exploded for 6 runs in the 2nd inning and then another 7 runs in the 4th inning. Hannah Kahler, Autumn Johnson, and Peighton Root each got 3 hits. Johnson hit a big 2 run homer in the 5th inning. Peighton Root picked up the win and had 5 strikeouts in only 5 innings of work.
In game 2 it was all Bulldogs as Maddie Kemp gave up only 5 hits picking up the win and getting her second shutout of the year and had 8 strikeouts. Johnson started off the scoring in the first with her third home run of the year. Alise Hale had 2 hits including a big double, Sydney Hines had 2 doubles and sophomore Maddie Vasquez picked up her first hit of the year in big fashion with a home run.
In their final game of the day against Haslett, Root took the mound but was relieved in the 3rd by Kemp after the Bulldogs fell behind 5-1. Kemp shut them down the rest of the way striking out 7 of the 13 batters she faced and only allowing 2 hits. The Bulldogs battled back and blew the game wide open a 5 run explosion in the 5th inning and sealed the deal with 6 more runs scored in the 6th. Root and Johnson had 3 hits apiece.
The Bulldogs improve to 5-1 on the season and will host Tecumseh Monday at 4 p.m.
