State Champion Bowler Brianna Fish signs letter of intent to Huntington University

On Saturday, April 30th surrounded by family and coaches, Vandercook Lake Hgh School Senior and Division 4 State Singles Bowling Champion Brianna Fish signed her Letter of Intent to bowl at Huntington University in the Fall. Huntington, located just south of Fort Wayne Indiana, is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic areas. It is affiliated with the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. And the Foresters, as they are called, are known to have a great bowling team.

Brianna, who has been bowling for 4 years, has been a part of 2 state champion bowling teams as well as being named the Division 4 State Singles Champion this past year.

“It was so much pressure and really nerve-wracking,” Brianna said about bowling in the final which got her the state championship. “But I felt so calm as I knew it was happening, it was unbelievable. When I first started bowling  I never thought (state champion) was possible. I’ve come a long way in 4 years. I’m just super happy that I’ve accomplished so much.”

Brianna contributes much of her skill to her High School coach Todd Reichard. She says “he has helped her develop as a better bowler and was a big influence on her and her team as well.”

Brianna joins a long list of great bowlers from Vandercook Lake joining other state champions Dee Dee Briggs, Nicole Crabtree, and Malloree Ambs. Brianna’s best memory from her years of bowling was  making new friends and winning team and individual states.

Brianna, who is a very involved student and is the top student in her graduating class,  will attend Huntington in the fall where she will be doing a double major in social work and psychology, as well as bowling for her new Head Coach Jim Bischoff.  She chose Huntington because “She likes the people, they’re influential, interactive, and they know what they’re talking about. They’re very knowledgeable in their areas. There are a lot of opportunities in the social work field in that area. The bowling coach is super nice and I think he had me before my senior year even started. But I needed to look for a school and not just bowling. The school will be super beneficial for me and bowling in college with an amazing coach will just add on to the whole experience!

Brianna is the daughter of Joe and Tara Fish. Her father Joe was an outstanding scholar-athlete for the University of Michigan’s wrestling team and also is the owner of Twisted Ink Tattoo Shop in Vandercook Lake. Her younger sister Kayla attends Grass Lake High School where she bowls for the Warriors varsity team.
